Presenting Bonfire

This Bonfire block was designed by Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting. Please visit her blog here where you will be able to download your free pattern.

Making This Block Just a Little Easier

This block is very easy to begin with. I’ve been wanting to experiment with printing the applique templates right onto the sheet of Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 using the printer. This pattern gave me the perfect chance to do so.

First, I checked to make sure I was printing at 100%. To be able to change the scaling and to get the accurate size, I needed to download the pattern, save it, and then open it in Adobe Reader. Once saved, it opens automatically in that program.

Next, I enlisted Tu-Na Helper to assist me. After all, we have a new printer and I didn’t want to have a problem. He recommended we do a test to make sure the Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 would be installed in the paper tray the right way.

I checked the test box to make sure it was one inch.

Then he noticed that the Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 was larger than the paper tray. I measured 8.5″ x 11″ and cut away the rest.

He inserted the Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 into the paper tray and gave me the command to push the print button.

Then I proceeded to cut out the pieces leaving a margin around the shape, removed the paper backing, stuck them onto the wrong side of the fabric, ironed, cut out the shape, fixed onto the block square and appliqued.

Note: I followed my tips that I listed for block one here and my block remained nice and flat and didn’t shrink at all. But I still had cut it the size recommended on the pattern just in case.

You can join in anytime. Each 12.5″ (unfinished) block will be released every other Tuesday with the last one scheduled for release on October 16th. You are free to make these blocks any way you want. However, if you are wanting to enter the contest, be sure to read the rules found in the Enter to Win section below to make sure your entry counts. 

The patterns will remain free on the respective designer’s blog until November 13, 2018. Designers may choose to keep them free after that time or make them available for a charge in their shops. The final finished top containing all 12 of these blocks (it doesn’t have to be quilted) link up for the mega giveaway is November 13th at 11:59 EST.

What I Learned Today:

1. Tu-Na Helper makes printing these seem so easy.
2. I have a hankering for a toasted marshmallow.
3. I’ve come a long way in my applique ability from my very first attempt on the I Wish You A Merry QAL ornament block last year. That block was a real mess and took lots of time to tweeze out all the papers left behind. You can read about it here.

Question: Do you sit by a campfire mesmerized by the flames and flickers or do you enjoy singing tunes to it’s glow? I like to sit by a fire and toast up some marshmallows and have been known to belt out several rounds of Kum Ba Yah while I’m waiting.
