Presenting Framing the Blocks

tunaquilts 1a

I measured my block at the top and cut a 2.5″ strip by the width of the block. Sew. Press. Measure the bottom and repeat. Do the same for each side.

I still have to trim the sides before attaching to the block.

Framing is great when your blocks are not all the same size or not square to begin with. I’ll be trimming my blocks to 16.5″ when I’ve finished adding all the frames around each one. My blocks were quite true to the size they should be. Otherwise, I’d trim them to 16″ or 15.5″ if necessary so that each one is the same size. Then I’ll sew all the blocks together and add a border.

Normally, I would frame blocks with a different color. Since my quilt is full of dots, I thought I’d keep it simple and frame each block using the background color.

Join this QAL

You can join in anytime. All the blocks have been released. You can find the link to each pattern in my posts showing my block. You are free to make these blocks any way you want. However, if you are wanting to enter the contest, be sure to read the rules found in the Enter to Win section below to make sure your entry counts.

The patterns will remain free on the respective designer’s blog until the end of the QAL. The final link up for the finished top containing all 12 of these blocks (it doesn’t have to be quilted) for the mega giveaway is November 12th at 11:59 EST.

Enter to Win

A winner will be selected at random from all the finished quilt tops pictured.

Entering to win the prize below is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

  1. Everyone (You must be 18 to be able to enter to win prizes) gets to participate because International entries are welcome! You do NOT need to have a blog to enter. Hosts and designers are not eligible to win.
  2. Make a quilt top using all 12 of the blocks provided to you free of charge for this event. It does not need to be quilted. Take a picture of it. Slight variations of the patterns are ok such as embellishments but keep your blocks true to the designed patterns if  you are entering the giveaway. The blocks should definitely be recognizable as made from these free patterns. Deviating too much (or substituting a different block entirely) will cause your entry not to be counted. If you have questions if it’s allowed for entry into the giveaway, please ask me before you cut.
  3. Post a picture of your block before 11:59 PM EST, November 12th either on the Facebook page, or on Instagram #fallintoaqal, or on any of the host’s  blogs by clicking on the Linky tool found at the bottom of the posts. You only need to link on one blog as it will show up on all the blogs. (Hopefully, mine at the end of this post will work, too). You are welcome to post a picture on each of the sources but it will only count as one entry.

What I Learned Today:

  1. Each year seems to be going faster.
  2. I have lots of things to finish before we fly south.
  3. I’ve got some sewing to do this week to finish this quilt top.
  4. Vacations are supposed to be energizing but I think mine was tiring.

Question: What would you like to sew in a QAL? I was thinking school supplies, or summer fun, or sewing room.

Thanks for stopping by and do come again.
