Howdy, pardner!  Thank you for stopping by and visiting. I appreciate new followers (check out my sidebar to follow by email, Bloglovin, or WordPress).  

I spend the winters in sunny Arizona. My quilting group here is very active. However, I made it even more active this winter when I opened my mouth and out came the words, “Who would like to help me make some boots?”

This lovely black and white (with some red) boot was made by Lenore. You can see one of my many boots I’ve sewn here.

The quilting group in my village has proposed building a Fiber Arts Center and is now in the fundraising stage. Our first fundraiser is coming up next week, An Old Fashioned Country Hoedown, complete with country music, line dancing, and a real auctioneer who will be auctioning pies and quilts.

I turned many of those 10.5″ x 12.5″ boots into placemats. First, I had to think of a way to make it larger. Friendship stars seemed like a good fit.

Little did I know that request would find me covered in boot blocks. I secured some much needed help for this project. We received enough boots for two quilts, a table runner, and 12 placemats. The quilt tops are finished and awaiting quilting on our longarm this week.

And when positioned behind the boot looks like a spur.

I’d show you pictures of them all, but that would be too much color for this black and white day so they’ll have to wait for another time.

This 12.5″ x 16.5″ beauty is ready for quilting. But I’ll be asking around at the meeting tomorrow for help with that as I’ve already made 12 placemats, 2 table runners, 5 table toppers, and 9 pairs of mug rugs and the Hoedown is next Tuesday!

What I Learned Today:

  1. Sewing is hard work. It consumed most of my time during the past two weeks.
  2. I couldn’t have done this project without the help of many friends from my quilting group.
  3. I am not done yet. I still have another quilt, a brick quilt that I also requested help with, lying on my living room floor that needs to be finished by Tuesday so it can be quilted and the binding sewn on before the Hoedown begins.
  4. Lenore is a very good seamstress. Thanks for participating in the boot challenge and making this beautiful block.

Question: Do you wear boots? I’ve never owned a pair of cowboy/cowgirl boots but I have ridden horses, probably wearing flip flops because that’s what teenagers and young adults did back then.

    What a beautiful block! It sounds like such a fun event and those boots will be a hit in the quilts, runners, and place mats. I’ve owned a couple different cowboy boots over the years, but don’t have any right now.

    Terrific design both with and without the “spur”. Its looks to be a wonderful addition to so many items and great for the fund raiser. Great job all the way around. The one or two times I was on a horse i”m pretty sure I wore sneakers.

    I have a friend who lives in Oklahoma. Once, years ago, when I was visiting her, I got caught up in the whole cowboy thing and bought some cowboy boots, with a higher heel than the regular boots. I think I wore them, once or twice. My daughter had more fun with them than me. Those boot blocks are really fun, and Lenore’s block is so cute! I was really looking forward to seeing a post from you today!

    Cute boots! You’ve been SEW busy! I don’t wear boots either, which just seems wrong since I live in Texas. I probably did most of my horseback riding in sneakers or barefoot, when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing!

    what a wonderful boot. have fun and good luck on the hoe down. I used to wear boots. growing up on a farm it was necessary. especially while working with animals and riding horse

    I love the Boots! My house is decorated with Cowboys and Indians so they will look great on my table! Yes, I have several pair of Stylish Boots!

    Cute idea love the boots. I have worn cowboy boots, but most of the time when I rode back in the day it was either barefoot or wearing tennis shoes or flip flops.

    That is “sew” cute. You girls really went to town on this one. Whew…that’s a lot of projects you got done. It’s always fun to stitch with friends! No boots for this girl. I like my ugly gramma shoes! hahahahaha

    Such a cute boot! Love it paired with a friendship star “spur”. Hope you raise lots of dough. I wore tennis shoes or borrowed my mom’s boots. I’m the only one of my family (10 siblings) not to own a pair, lol.

    Your boot is FUN! Never owned cowboy boots. I did buy a very expensive pair of black leather thigh high boots once, I wore them out…gosh I miss them!

    Oh yes, I had horses until I was married. Loved my boots. I also love this BLOCK would love to see more of them. Any chance to get the pattern?

    You probably would think that this Okie would have a pair of boots and NO, I do not. When I was a child, owning a pair of boots was a sign of poverty. If you had a pair of boots, it was probably your only pair of footwear. You wore them on the farm, to town, to church, to school, everywhere. You had to have footwear that would stand up to everything and that was cowboy boots. It wasn’t until I was much, much older that I learned that good cowboys were very, very expensive and a nice status symbol. My oldest grandson’s mother wears her cowboy boots with daisy dukes and the rest of us think it looks like crap. She had that grandson until a year ago and now that grandson was wearing his boots with shorts, too. He literally wore them out and his new ones are too large. We feel sorry for the kid – he is 13 years old and has no idea about proper dress. My son is really trying with him without making fun of him or telling him that he is being ridiculed. It’s a fine line. I love your boot pattern. Good job, Karen! I hope you raise lots of money.

    What a cute block and sounds like you are really keeping busy! I used to wear cowboy boots when we lived in the country and went to rodeos with our friends…..long time ago
