Tu-Na Quilts: QAL by the Sea Block 10

Welcome to the tenth block reveal
for the QAL by the Sea!

This QAL is brought to you by Partners in Design: Where Friends and Fabric Meet.

Presenting: Sunset Beach

This 12.5″ (unfinished) block pattern was created by Sandy Maxfield of SandyStar Designs. You can download it free

HERE ON HER BLOG from now until December 1, 2020 at 7:59 am Eastern time. After then, the patterns in this QAL may not be available anymore or may be available for a small fee through the designer. Don’t delay, download them today.

Tips and Tricks to Constructing this Block

  1. Don’t stress on the small stuff. I love this block and wanted to make it look extra special so I kept changing my mind on fabric choices. Because of that, I was late with sewing this block and finished it with my arm in a cast. I hinted of an arm injury on my last post.
  2. You can do anything if you put your mind to it, One of my quilting friends in my AZ group is blind. She’s shown me how she operates her sewing machine and I’ve seen three of her beautiful quilts, I figured if Lori can sew without seeing then I can sew and blog with one hand, But I’ll keep it short today.

Yes, there’s rick rack! Once I regain the use of my left hand, I’ll finish the applique. I think that will help the sun stand out more. Maybe I’ll use black thread on the sun.

What I Learned Today:

  1. It is possible to sew with one hand, including ripping out two seams, but not possible to take a picture of it at the same time,
  2. Sometimes doctors make mistakes, I told you about my wrist/arm injury on the previous post, I went to the doctor last Tuesday and she said there were no broken bones. Her advice was to ice, elevate, and come back in ten days if not better. The radiologist confirmed her  diagnosis but by Thursday afternoon I knew something was wrong so I went to the orthopedic doctor on Friday, After reviewing the same x-rays taken on Tuesday, she found 2 breaks in the same arm bone.
  3. There’ll be no fresh apple pie for Tu-Na Helper now unless he makes it himself. Actually, there’ll be no meals made or laundry done either.
  4. Our trip south has been delayed because of me.
  5. The first snowfall can be beautiful as long as it’s just a dusting.

This is the second dusting we’ve had.

Question: Sunrise or sunset? For those who know me well, they’ll agree that I’ve seen very few sunrises. We’ve seen many beautiful sunsets at both of our homes and on our travels.

There is a little body of water in the center. We were on our way back to ND, June 2019.

Thanks for stopping by and do come again.

I see lots of sunrises….in the winter and spring…and a few in the summer. I see a lot more sunsets if I’m sitting in the living room. I love your block and admire your ability to accomplish this with a broken/injured arm. So happy that you found another doctor to help you. Wouldn’t mind that dusting of snow EXCEPT the hubby has to finish the front deck before snow/rain fall here. Two more weeks!! Take care.

I’m always glad to see rickrack in your blocks, and it was hiding a bit this week! So sorry to hear about your arm but good for you for speaking up when you knew something was off. I hope healing is speedy!

So sorry to hear about your misfortune, but kudos to you for listening to your body and not accepting someone’s opinion when you knew it wasn’t right.
You did a wonderful job in spite of the constraints put on you by your arm problem. That was a perfect place to put the rick rack.
I hope when you do get to go to Arizona, you aren’t faced with driving through a lot of snow. We had 9″ last Tuesday, but it has nearly melted.
    Take care.
