Entering to win is as easy as 1, 2, 3 (US) or 4 (ABROAD).

Everyone (You must be 18 to be able to enter to win prizes) gets to participate. There will be two prizes awarded for each segment and for the Grand Prize: U. S. and International. You do NOT need to have a blog to enter.
Make all four of the blocks in this segment provided to you free of charge for this event. Use your own fabrics and embellish them as you like. If you are entering the giveaway, the blocks should definitely be recognizable as made from these free patterns. Take one picture with all of them included. Finished projects or a quilt are NOT a requirement for entry.

Update on Terry the Turtle: You may have noticed that my turtle looks a lot different from the one I made and posted for block 2. I alluded to the sad fate of it in the block 4 post in the What I Learned Today section near the end of the post.

The Rest of the Story: I had made my turtle early in the month but finished the blanket applique stitch around it a few days before the block was revealed. Late one night, actually it was very late one night just before the post published, I grabbed the scissors and started carefully snipping away at the back of the block removing the background from behind the applique. I like to do that to reduce the bulk and keep it nice and soft. My thoughts were racing.

When I finished with the underbelly, I turned it around. Oh, no! I had snipped a hole through the applique. I carefully removed that piece and cut out a slightly larger underbelly piece, fused it in place but forgetting to stitch around the edge with a blanket stitch. Problem solved, or so I thought.

Grabbing the scissors again, I removed the background from the underbelly and the undershell and the shell. Wait. Something didn’t look right. I couldn’t believe what I had done. I turned it around in disbelief. The underbelly and shell were perfectly held in place on the background with the backing perfectly cut away but I had completely cut out the undershell—applique and all. There was a gaping hole where it should have been and there was no way to redo just that piece.

One thing led to another and I grabbed the rotary cutter to release my frustration and went to bed. There’d be time to remake him before Segment One ended. So the block two post was actually a tribute to a turtle that only existed in bits and pieces in the trash can (after had I cut a few 1.5″ pieces that could be salvaged from it).

What I Learned Today:

Haste makes waste is definitely true.
Alexander Graham Bell sure knew what he was talking about when he wrote “Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work in hand.”
My mind will probably still run away with it’s thoughts even after all I learned from this lesson (read the What I Learned Today on my Block 4 post).
