Congratulations!
You’ve survived Segment 3 of the Destination QAL.
Giveaway Alert! Find two giveaways in this post! This giveaway is now closed.
The past four weeks have found us taking a road trip, deciding which way to go, riding up and away in a hot air balloon, and climbing a mountain. Now it’s time to put this quilt to rest.
This QAL is brought to you by Partners in Design: Where Friends and Fabric Meet.
Finishing the Top
While it’s not necessary to have a finished quilt top to enter the Grand Prize, you might enjoy making your blocks into one anyway using my large suitcase block called My Bags are Packed; I’m Ready to Go.
Find the pattern at Tu-Na’s pattern shop.
You’ll get the directions for the 26 1/2″ square suitcase block called My Bags are Packed; I’m Ready to Go.
I’ve also included setting instructions for a 58″ square quilt using 12 blocks or make 4 extra blocks for a 58″ x 72″ quilt. I already made an extra Cityscape (Find the Cityscape block pattern here at Tu-Na’s Pattern shop) earlier as well as two extra car blocks. Both of those patterns are great for making additional blocks. I couldn’t resist making one more car block. Find the pattern for the car block at Tu-Na’s Pattern Shop.
The suitcase block is sized to be used with 12 1/2″ unfinished blocks with a 2 1/2″ sashing and 2 1/2″ square cornerstones. Borders are optional but can increase the size if you want it larger. I’ll be adding 4 inch borders made of the cornerstone fabric.
As usual, I have the pattern loaded with lots of ideas for embellishments.

What I Learned Today:
- Do not cut fabric after midnight. When I started sewing today, my sashing strips were sized between 11″ and 13″ long. I wonder which ruler I used!
- Designing quilt blocks is fun!
- My math worked! My suitcase block works perfectly when paired with 12 1/2″ blocks.
- I bet you can’t say the name of my suitcase block without singing it! I know I can’t. It’s one of my favorite songs.
Questions: Have you made a quilt with a large block as a panel? This is my first!
Thanks for stopping by and do come again,

A lot of hard work went into your block. Am I old if I remember that song Leaving on a Jet Plane?
This block and title are both appropriate for my current job. Before the pandemic, I traveled all over the state. I had a suitcase with essential items always ready. I am now safe and secure working splitting the time between office and home office (dining room table with a great view). I love to travel and miss in person meetings and assistance. I always loved to see your travel photos and blogs.

Love this! You did a great job with your setting suitcase and travel bags. I do wish I was leaving on a jet plan soon…but it will be a bit.

I’m thinking I missed the whole thing this year, with all the treatment issues. It looks like a super sampler, wonderful as I would expect of all of you!
